post how much you're paying, that will really determine how 'good' the total setup is
as a whole, all I see is a bunch of midrange parts

When I think midrange, I think $800. So I would not pay more than $1000 for that system.
I built your exact same setup at Dell/Alienware for $1500. So that tells me you are paying $500 too much.

You seem to have left out RAM. How much are you cramming in there?

Yes I did and it was not included.
But it looks like I am way over priced
IF you needed to build a computer for 1500.00 what would you buy? I thought that this was a good start but maybe not.

Do you want it built for you? Or do you want to do it yourself?
If you want to get it built for you, I would look at Dell Alienware, or you can check out what some of the internet sites have like TD -
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?Lprice=1000&CatId=114
If you want to build it yourself, then use TD or NewEgg.
I bet you can get Big-10 to give you a newegg build list!

It would be fun to come up with some TL endorsed rigs. And not necessarily only for whole PC's, but other non-apple (lol) products like phones, routers, etc.
As for the rigs, I remember I used to enjoy reading the recommended buys on Sharky Extreme. Maybe we could do something like that?

ATI graphics card alternative, think it's a better deal. All the specs are more, trying to find some graphical chart comparisons but coming up short.

You must be getting your video cards mixed up. The GTX 460 outperforms the ATI 5830 in just about every single test, and you can easily find it for $180 as opposed to the $200 5830.
GTX 460 is a better buy.

I bought the original Maximus Formula for $300 and I'll never do that again. Syn has had better luck overclocking his Q9550 on a much more reasonably priced board. A cheaper Gigabyte or Asus like BiG mentioned would be a better route IMO.
Although, I would grab the 1GB version of the Gigabyte GTX 460. It's got more ROP's and a bigger memory bus. $30 can give you 20% more horsepower when running AA.
Antec's 300 Illusion comes w/ 4 fans (2 in, 2 out) and costs $80.

Not sure if PSU has been mentioned yet, but a 500~650 from Corsair would be a good option. Here's a 650 for $70.

I'm not sure whether your friend will be overclocking or not, but Zupa really likes his Cogage True Spirit. If not, stock cooler will be fine.
Have fun w/ it!
